About the role 

We are seeking a senior maritime professional to lead and manage our marine inspection operations across Australia and, as required from time to time, support our international colleagues across their operational regions.

This is a leadership position suited to an experienced industry professional with the ability to manage operations, people and client relationships at a national and international level, reporting to senior management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage marine inspection operations across Australia.

  • Provide leadership, direction and oversight to surveyors and technical personnel.

  • Oversee job allocation, scheduling and operational planning.

  • Review and approve technical reports prior to client submission.

  • Maintain high standards of quality, compliance and consistency across all service delivery.

  • Act as primary point of contact for key marine clients.

  • Liaise with and support international Intertek offices across their operational regions as required.

  • Develop and implement structured training and capability programs for marine personnel.

  • Mentor and guide surveyors and junior technical staff.

  • Contribute to operational planning, performance management and continuous improvement.

  • Attend onboard surveys as required.

  • Willingness to work after hours, over weekends and public holidays as required by industry demands.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

This role is not limited to the functions listed above and may extend across broader marine and technical service areas in line with business requirements.

Candidate Requirements

  • Certificate of Competency Class 1 (Master Mariner) or Chief Engineer (Unlimited).

  • Experience having sailed on board vessels in a senior capacity and/or as Master or Chief Engineer.

  • Minimum five years recent experience in marine surveying, technical inspection, superintendent roles or senior leadership positions within the maritime industry.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and operational delivery.

  • Strong commercial awareness and client relationship capability.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfortable with modern technology platforms, digital reporting tools and data driven decision making.

  • Valid Australian driver's licence.

  • Valid Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) or ability to obtain one.

  • Full Australian working rights.

Marine Services Scope

Our marine activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Vessel condition and cargo inspections.

  • Draft and bunker surveys.

  • Compliance and safety inspections.

  • Damage and condition assessments.

  • Port and marine advisory services.
